Day 15

Well as you can probably tell, I did not do an entry for Day 14.  I was tired and not feeling great so I skipped it.  Today is the very last day of being on an all liquid diet.  Tomorrow I start eating soft solid foods like eggs and soft boiled or baked potato and oatmeal and soft vegetables...OH I CANT WAIT lol.  Today I went to the park in Ravenna and walked around its outer edge for about an hour straight.  I consumed my usual 3 GNC Swiss Chocolate Lean shakes for my 75 grams of protein.  I am still wore out from my walk but looking forward to doing it again tomorrow.  As for my weight, I have now officially lost 30 pounds in 15 days.  My weight of 325.0 is a 1.8 pound drop from Day 13's weight.  I look forward to dropping below 300 pounds for the first time since early 2009.  Hopefully by the time I go back to school for my last semester on January 18th, Ill be close to that.  Good night everyone see you next time.

Day 13

Hello everyone and thank you for dropping by once again to read up on my weight loss journey to being Obese Never Again.  Today I consumed 3 GNC 25 gram protein lean shakes for my 75 grams total and at least 16 grams from a serving of Lactaid 1% milk fat cottage cheese.  I went to Richmond today to GNC to get more lean shakes since I was on my last 3 today.  I decided to go with a new flavor from the Vanilla Bean.  I got Swiss Chocolate.  This should last longer since after Tuesday, I will no longer be solely dependent on those shakes for protein.  I am already looking so much forward to being able to put a scrambled egg, soft boiled potato and fat free refried beans on my plate.  FLAVOR!!!! While I was in Richmond, I parked in a far mostly empty parking lot in the mall area and did some walking hoping it wouldn't rain on me. Tonight's weigh in comes in at 326.8 lbs which is a drop from last night of 1.6 lbs bringing my grand total weight loss to 28.2 lbs.  See you tomorrow!

Day 12

Hello readers! Hope you had a great and Merry Christmas yesterday.  I decided that after 10 straight days of reporting my progress that I would use yesterday being Christmas as an excuse not to,  I suppose that it is okay with you.  Any who.... Today I went to the old Richmond Mall to walk around.  Made 2 whole trips up and down the mall inside and then did some walking around outside the mall.  I consumed 3 GNC lean shakes for a total of 75 grams of protein.  No nausea or vomiting today.  My surgical wounds appear to continue to healing just fine.  My weight for tonight came to 328.4 pounds which is a 1.6 pounds drop from last night bringing my total weight loss since surgery to 26.6 pounds.  Nothing more to report.  See you tomorrow!

Day 10

Hello everyone, it is time for another post.  Today was pretty decent, except I did have an episode with vomiting but I think it was stress induced..Finding out something completely out of your control is going to try to keep you from having financial aid to pay for your very last semester of school is pretty damning.  But back to my day.  I have kept fluids in me and also continued intake of protein through the GNC Lean Shakes.  I ate 3/4ths of a banana today.  I also ate some home made applesauce.  I had a small bowl of tomato soup for supper with protein powder mixed in.  (HINT: Follow the mixing instructions for protein powder in hot soups).  I did drive to town today to walk.  It was the first time I drove since the day before my surgery.  I walked approximately 1/4 of a mile in town.  Today's weigh in comes in at 330.2 lbs which is a drop from last night by 1.6 lbs.  Bringing my total weight loss to 24.8 lbs.  Merry Christmas Eve everyone.  I will post tomorrow night!

Day 9

Well today was a bit of a set back for me.  I woke up at 6:15 AM after sleeping poorly to make it to Georgetown for a meeting with the Bariatric Clinic and Dr. Smith's office.  I was supposed to meet with the dietitian for post op diet tips and to get my drain tube removed.  During the informational with the clinic's dietitian, I became very faint and light headed and had to leave the class to be attended to.  This has happened before.  I have to say that anxiety got to me again.  I guess that and all the weight I lost, dehydration, and lack of sleep all contributed to my blood pressure being low.  I had my tube removed by Dr. Smith's assistant and the staff at Georgetown Bariatric was so kind to me.  I ultimately had to spend 2 hours getting a 1 L bag of fluids put into me by an IV.  I still managed to get my 100 grams of protein in today by drinking 4 GNC Lean Shakes that contain 25 grams protein each.  Today I started stage 2 of my post op diet which for the next 7 days means that on top of clear liquids I can add stuff like skim milk, cottage cheese, creamy soup, sugar free pudding, bananas.  I took advantage by consuming some tomato soup made with skim milk.. Man I tell you it was the best tasting stuff I put in my mouth since before the surgery.  I weighed myself and found that I weighed 331.8 lbs which is actually an increase of .8 lbs.  I believe this was due to the 1 L of fluids that was placed in me today.  I had dropped an impressive amount of weight..Perhaps just a tad overdone.  But I am sure my weight will continue to drop.  See you tomorrow!

Day 8

Well if you include the day of my surgery as Day 1 instead of Day 0, then today is Day 8.  I had my appointment with my EENT doctor and was cleared of my inner ear infection.  Today is also my last day on Stage 1 of my post op diet.  It will not be missed as finally I will be able to consume milk products and soup products.  This will make taking in my 70-100 grams of protein much easier and tastier.  The last straw was when I mixed 20g of Protein with this white grape juice drink and sipped on that on the way to Lexington.  It got to really tasting bad.  I did actually get in 100 grams of protein today as I also bought 2 40g protein bottles of clear liquid drink from GNC and consumed those through out the day.  I am periodically spitting out this milky white crap from my mouth which seems to be festering on my tongue which I will be asking my doctor about tomorrow when I go see him to get this drain tube taken out.  My weight tonight came to an even 331.0 pounds which is a drop of 2.4 pounds from last night bringing my grand total weight loss to 24 pounds.  See you tomorrow with a new update.

Day 7

Well today I woke up feeling very gassy and BLAH!! This period of clear liquid only diet is wearing on me very quickly and its a constant struggle to stay true to the system in place.  Anything that resembles cooked food seems amplified to me in smell and appearance.  Even an oven baked pizza from Wal-mart looks and smells amazing.  I go to the EENT doctor tomorrow for a follow up to a Left ear infection I had prior to the surgery.  Yes I still have this drain tube in me that had better come out Wednesday.  Wednesday will also be the day that I convert over to stage 2 of my post-op diet which will allow me to consume milk products like Milk, puddings, and also non-chunky soup.  It will allow me to add a lot more flavor to me protein consumption.  My weight tonight came to 333.4 which is a 2.6 pound difference from last night.  This brings my total weight loss to 21.6 pounds.

Day 6

Well today I feel pretty much the same as yesterday.  Just still struggling with the taste of the clear liquid protein drinks that I have to consume between 70-100 grams of.  Still have the drain tube for at least 3 more days.  Two more days and Ill finally be able to drink low fat milk and consume a little more in the way of food products such as puddings and soups so that consuming the needed protein wont feel like such a burden.  Tonight's weight comes in at 336.0 lbs which is 2.0 lbs less than last night.  Still walking and doing my breathing exercises.  See you tomorrow!

Day 5 Update

UPDATE!!

Thanks to getting a proper digital scale, I can now accurately track my progress.  I was 355 lbs going into surgery on Tuesday, December 15th.  Tonight I now weigh 338.0 lbs which is a loss of 17 lbs.  Will update each new post with a new weight number.  Stay Tuned!

Day 5

Well today I am feeling better than yesterday.  I still have this annoying drain tube in me that will stay there until Wednesday.  I am having bowel movements now.  I am able to consume between 70-100 grams of protein that I need a day.  It is a struggle though because the clear liquid protein drinks simply do not taste good.  Ill be glad when I can drink milk with Protein again because then I will be able to drink it and have it taste good once again.  That will be hopefully in about 3-4 more days.  I have not been outdoors since coming back home on Day 2.  It does not bother me since it is cold and going into the later part of December.  I am passing my time by watching lots of Netflix and sticking to my breathing exercises and walking periodically.  I still use my DVT preventing leg compress machine when I sleep and suspect that I will do so until I go see my doctor on Wednesday.

Day 4

Well I got a decent night's rest last night.  Today I woke up around 11 am.  I have been able to consume more in the way of liquids today meaning I'm getting more protein and my new stomach is getting more tolerant to more content.  I still do not have a scale to begin my measurements but I hope to very soon.  My pain has been minimal and my nausea level has dropped off slightly from yesterday.  I still struggle with gas but even that is better than yesterday.  It is my hope that Ill be able to get rid of this drain tube by the next Wednesday.  That is about all there is to update for today.

Day 3

Well I slept decent enough last night only had to get up once with a nauseated sensation and going to the bathroom.. Today has been a struggle as well with trying to sip down a drink with 15g of protein and water.  Been walking several times and just a lot of spitting up stuff.  My throat continues to be sore from surgery and all of my vomit episodes.  Its all most time for me to take my next round of pain medication.  Dont have a scale yet so I can't record any weight.  Looking forward to starting that soon.

Day 2

Well day 2 was another day of nausea and throwing up...but I did get discharged.  Bad news is that I was given scripts with someone else's name on it and then I found out someone was given my scripts....and they got filled...outrageous...

The Night Before

Well it is the night before my big surgery.  I will check in to Georgetown Hospital in Georgetown, Kentucky, tomorrow at 10:30 am.  I will have my Gastric Vertical Sleeve surgery about 60-90 minutes later.

This will be the site for all my family and friends and anyone else who cares to check in on my surgery results and to keep up with my progress as I lose approximately 160 pounds.  I will update this as soon as I can after my surgery tomorrow.  Be sure to check back with this blog and my twitter handle @IrvinePatriot.  The road to this day has been long and filled with bumps along the way.  I have been on a pre-op diet for the last 2 weeks and on a clear liquid diet all day today and which I will be on about 7-8 days after my surgery.
